METRONET

METRONET is the single largest investment in public transport WA has ever seen. It is one of Australia’s biggest infrastructure projects with more than 10,000 workers, 72 kilometres of new passenger rail, and the construction of 23 new stations,

METRONET will provide a reliable and effective integrated public transport system that will ensure Perth can meet the increased travel demands of its growing population. More than 80 major rail, road, coastal infrastructure and bike riding projects are also progressing in WA.

Housing Construction Project

The WA Government is investing $2.4 billion in social housing and homelessness measures over the next four years. This includes the delivery of 3,300 social housing dwellings along with refurbishments and maintenance to thousands more.  

The WA Government has also launched its landmark Housing Diversity Pipeline, unlocking State Government land to offer new opportunities for innovative residential development.  

By encouraging alternate delivery models, new housing construction methods and financial incentives, the State Government is stimulating investment from the private sector to create a pipeline of diverse housing choice for years to come. 

The State Government is also supporting new housing development through a range of measures including tax incentives, stamp duty rebates and facilitating land supply through the Housing Diversity Pipeline.

Geraldton Port

Geraldton is home to one of Australia’s major sea ports located 420km north of Perth. The port exported over 15 million tonnes, including 10 million tonnes of iron ore in 2021-22.

A major infrastructure project is underway for Geraldton Port services. The WA Government is investing $350 million to expand the Port of Geraldton. This will assist to de-bottleneck existing export facilities.   

During the construction phase, up to 2,700 jobs may be created. Once completed, the Port of Geraldton will process an extra 10 million tonnes per annum.

The Port is just one of the major projects funded through the WA Government’s record $12 billion infrastructure investment for regional WA.

New Women and Babies Hospital

The New Women and Babies Hospital is a transformative project providing world-class facilities to serve Western Australian families for future generations. 

This $1.8 billion WA Government project has progressed from planning to the design stage. It will create more than 1,400 jobs during construction. It is one of many significant health initiatives in WA and will provide valuable support to the community and our local industries. 

$1.6 billion in health infrastructure spending has been allocated to 2026-2027. This is to enable our health system well into the future and to deliver key job-creating projects including:

  • $256.7 million upgrade to Joondalup Health Campus

  • $200.1 million Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment
